WHO WE ARE

“Who we are”
The land, its people, history, production, food and traditions underpin the very existence of the Souk el Tayeb.
Souk el Tayeb evolved in the past six years from an experimental farmers’ market promoting small scale farmers and producers, to a vibrant organization working on many levels and projects nationally and internationally to promote and preserve Lebanese food and culinary traditions, rural heritage and natural environment.
Our goal is to promote and practice a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle both individually and in relation to the country. We are dedicated to safeguarding and restoring Lebanon’s natural heritage and rural practices.

What we believe in/do:
El Tayeb believes in:
Creating a “platform” around a shared goal that brings together people of different regions and beliefs – celebrating the land we love (Sahat el Tayeb)
Supporting small-scale farmers and producers and introducing environmentally-friendly practices [Souk el Tayeb – the weekly farmers’ market]
Encouraging organic, eco-friendly produce and practices to improve the quality of food, life and health.
Contributing to local community development initiatives
[Akl wou Eid - Food & Feast]
Spreading environmental awareness to future generations (through educational campaigns, Souk @ school and Souk @ university)
Consciousness raising and promoting the experience of green living  (through public awareness campaigns , El Tayeb Press and El Tayeb Newsletter]

EL TAYEB:
Tayeb in Arabic means “good” … good as of taste, but as of character too. We would say it is a good tomato, for its great taste, and say good about a person, for the manners and personality. . In Arabic we would say also good, meaning alive … that man is still good, he is still alive. Good taste, good energy and life are what we always try to add to Souk el Tayeb.
